Caressing the motto of “Old But Gold”, Glenrothes Brought 1968s Sherry Cask Single Malt into 2020s Market.
Glenrothes scotch whiskey is a spirits distillery that started in 1878. It was founded in times when the Scotch whikey was on its top and had plenty of chances to be the number one spirit in the 19th century market. However, the producer was not enjoying high times at the beginning, such as during the First World War. It was having a hard period in the Great Depression too.
Gradually it was gaining success and by 1982, it had already a circulation of 1.5million gallons. Going from hand to hand, Glenrothes saw enough experiments since its 21th century history. Bottles of whiskey were coming in vintage examples, as well as Reserve. On the other hand, soon the brand turned to distiling traditional type of spirits.

The price of this half a century old Scotch whiskey is around 32,400 US dollars. This is a drink that was matured n the American Oak as well as Sherry Casks.
Earlier in 2018 there was another brand that produced 50 year old Sherry Cask single malt in Speyside. This one came in 309 bottles and was priced around six thousand dollars or a bit more- an affordable yet less dominant in the market of scotch whiskeys. Lost drop Distillery has been around 160 years and seems like they have still some way to go to be more recognized worldwide, despite some cool outlets.

Previously released collections that were profitable for the fame of the Scotch whiskey producer had their impact also in the 40, 25, 18, 12 and 10 year old examples. The “Soleo” collection, made of sun-dried grapes, took the fruit from Pedro Ximenez. Gold colored bottles, such as the 750ml 10 year old 40% ABV is, on the other hand made of orange, raisins and walnut. What is more, the mixed smell includes baked apple, some bits of the aromatic cinnamon and waxy finishing touches. The bitterness is not so emphasized at the beginning, but it appears gradually in the end.
12 year old version stands out with its dark gold tone and ensures some winter feel, as the Christmas fruits echo in the tasting process, not to forget about ginger, clove and caramel smell. This is more a reminder of a syrup, than an actual scotch, thanks to its tropical hints in the end.

18 and 25 Year Old Bottles Have a Lot to Say
Next we get the 18 year old example, colored in amber and it is unique in floral tone, as well as the dried fruit mid-taste, such as orange, apricot, lemon and dates, assisted with mint. Pepper and caramel mixture on the palate is the second feel after the smooth sip.
Finally, the 25-year old Glenrothes Scotch whiskey is extraordinary with its heavy tone and sweetness with a waxy touch. There is some certain complexity though in this 42% ABV. In the long lasting taste you will find the most pleasant tones.
